Ognaj oil and gas field is located in the onshore Cambay Basin in Ahmedabad & Gandhinagar Districts of Gujarat State, India. Ognaj block is a small sized discovered onshore field having an area of 13.65 Sq.kms.
The Field was discovered by ONGC in 1982. ONGC drilled 2 wells for the exploration and exploitation of Kalol pay zones, out of which 1 well was oil / gas bearing. However, the field was not put on regular production by ONGC.
The Oil Field block was awarded to SELAN Exploration Technology Limited and a Production Sharing Contract (PSC) was signed between Govt. of India (GoI) and SELAN in Feb 2004. SELAN is having the 100% ownership as an Operator in Ognaj Field.
After taken over the field from ONGC, the company drilled one well in the block area on the basis 2D seismic data. Rapid urbanization is the biggest challenge in the Ognaj block area.
The producing crude oil is highly viscous from existing wells, tried various technologies including solvent squeeze job and Down Hole Heating (DHH) system and observed no improvement in production.
In view of the this to improve productivity of these wells, recently hydraulic stimulations have been attempted in wells Ogj-1 & Ogj-3, presently both the wells under activation.
The additional data and interpretations estimates the discovered Oil In-Place (IOIP) is 0.79 MMstb.
